Privacy Fence Installation in the Carolinas

A privacy fence turns a backyard into a room. It blocks the neighbor's sightline, muffles road
noise, keeps kids and dogs safely in, and adds real resale value to your home. Southern Built
Fence Co designs and installs privacy fences in wood, vinyl, and composite across Four Oaks and
the surrounding Carolina towns. We build them straight, plumb, and to last, with posts set deep
enough to survive Carolina clay and storm season. Call (910) 786-1243 for a free estimate.

Privacy fence styles we build

  • Board-on-board — overlapping pickets with no gaps, full privacy from both sides, our most popular style

  • Solid-panel / stockade — classic flat-face privacy fence, the best value per foot

  • Shadowbox — alternating boards that look finished from both sides and let some air through

  • Vinyl privacy — zero maintenance, never needs paint or stain, strong warranty

  • Horizontal / modern — clean contemporary look for newer homes

  • Lattice-top and decorative-top — privacy below, style and light above

Wood vs. vinyl privacy fence

Wood costs less up front, looks natural, and is easy to repair board by board. It needs
staining or sealing every few years to fight Carolina humidity and sun.

Vinyl costs more to install but never needs paint, stain, or serious maintenance, and it
shrugs off moisture and insects. Over 15 to 20 years it often costs less than wood once you
add up the upkeep.

We install both and will give you honest numbers on each so you can pick based on your budget
and how much maintenance you actually want to do.

Built for Carolina conditions

Privacy fences catch wind like a sail, so post depth and spacing matter more here than almost
anywhere. We set posts below the frost line in concrete, space them for our wind and soil, and
use hardware that will not rust out in the humidity. A privacy fence built right is the
difference between one that stands for decades and one that leans after the first big storm.

Frequently asked questions

How tall can a privacy fence be?
Most residential privacy fences are 6 feet, which is the standard for full privacy. Some HOAs
and municipalities cap height or restrict front-yard fencing. We check the rules for your
address before we build.

How long does a privacy fence take to install?
Most residential privacy fences are completed within a week of approval, depending on size and
weather.

Do I need to know where my property line is?
It helps. If you are unsure, we will walk it with you, and for tight situations we may
recommend a survey so the fence goes exactly where it should.

Which is better, board-on-board or stockade?
Board-on-board gives full privacy from both sides and hides gaps as wood shrinks, but costs a
little more. Stockade is the better value if budget is the priority. We will show you both.

What does a privacy fence cost?
It depends on length, material, height, and terrain. The estimate is free. Call
(910) 786-1243 and we will give you a real number.
