Chain link fences we build

  • Galvanized chain link: the classic silver fence and the most affordable way to enclose a yard

  • Black vinyl-coated chain link: a coated finish that blends into the yard and looks cleaner than bare metal

  • Residential yard fencing: usually 4 feet tall to keep dogs and kids in while leaving the view open

  • Commercial and security fencing: taller, heavier fence for lots, equipment yards, and storage

  • Dog runs and kennels: enclosed runs sized for your dogs, with a gate you can latch one-handed

  • Farm and field enclosures: chain link around barns, gardens, and equipment areas on rural property

  • Walk and drive gates: single and double gates built to swing without dragging

Galvanized or vinyl-coated: how to choose

Galvanized chain link is steel wire with a zinc coating that protects it from rust. It is the lowest-cost option and the right call for back property lines, dog runs, farm use, and commercial jobs where looks matter less than function.

Vinyl-coated chain link adds a bonded color coating, most often black, over the galvanized wire. It costs more, but it disappears into the landscape far better than bright silver metal, it is smoother to the touch, and it adds another layer of protection against the weather. Many homeowners pick black-coated fence for the parts of the yard they see every day and galvanized for the rest.

Wire thickness matters too. Chain link is sold by gauge, and a lower gauge number means a thicker, stronger wire. Lighter wire is fine for a simple yard fence. Heavier wire makes sense for big dogs, commercial sites, and anywhere the fence will take abuse. We will tell you which one your job actually needs so you are not paying for more fence than you use.

Want some privacy without switching materials? Privacy slats can be woven into the mesh to block most of the view. If full privacy is the goal, a wood or vinyl privacy fence is usually the better fit, and we can quote both.

Built for Johnston County ground and weather

A chain link fence is only as good as its posts. Much of Johnston County sits on sandy Coastal Plain soil that drains well but grips posts less firmly than heavy clay, so we set terminal, corner, and gate posts deep in concrete. Those are the posts that carry the tension of the whole fence line, and they are where cheap installs fail first.

We stretch the mesh tight between terminal posts so it does not sag or belly out when a dog leans on it. A top rail keeps the line straight, and a bottom tension wire helps keep pets from pushing under. On sloped yards we follow the ground so you are not left with gaps under the fence.

Before we set a single post, we check HOA rules, setbacks, and property lines. Johnston County recommends keeping a fence 1 to 2 feet inside your property line, and we help you figure out where that is. Most residential jobs are done within a week or two of approval, weather permitting.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a chain link fence cost?
It depends on the length of the fence, the height, the number of gates, and the terrain. Coated fence and heavier wire cost more than basic galvanized. The estimate is free. Call (910) 786-1243 and we will measure and give you a real number.

How tall should my chain link fence be?
Four feet is the common height for residential yards and keeps most dogs and kids in. Five or six feet works better for jumpers and larger dogs. Commercial and security fences are often six feet or taller. HOAs sometimes limit height, so we check before we build.

Will a chain link fence keep my dog in?
For most dogs, yes. We keep the mesh tight and close to the ground and add a bottom tension wire to discourage pushing under. If your dog digs, tell us at the estimate and we will talk through options for the bottom of the fence.

Do you install chain link for businesses and farms?
Yes. We build commercial security fencing, equipment yards, dog kennels, and chain link enclosures on rural and farm property across Johnston County, along with wide drive gates for trucks and equipment.

Can you add onto or repair my existing chain link fence?
Yes. We repair bent top rails, torn mesh, and leaning posts, and we can extend an existing fence line. We match your current height and finish where the materials are still available.
