Angier fence rules and permits

Angier is a Harnett County town, and a small part of it reaches into Wake County, so the first question is who has jurisdiction over your lot.

Inside Angier's corporate limits, the town requires a land use permit to install a fence. The town's ordinance also says fences taller than six feet on residential property need a special use permit from the Board of Adjustment, and fences cannot be built within or across a public or private easement shown on your survey or recorded plat. We confirm height limits for your lot with the town instead of guessing.

Outside town, in unincorporated Harnett County, the county says it does not regulate fences on residential lots and no fence permit is required. The county still does not allow a fence inside an easement or right-of-way, it has to stay out of the NCDOT sight triangle at intersections, and the county recommends setting the fence 1 foot inside your property line to avoid disputes with neighbors.

The Wake County side has its own rules, and an HOA can be stricter than any of them. We check all of it before we build.

Local conditions in Angier

Angier calls itself the Town of Crepe Myrtles, a name that goes back to the 1930s when the Woman's Club planted them along the roadways. The town was founded in the late 1880s, and the older blocks around downtown still have that feel: established lots, mature trees and fence lines that have been there a long time.

Angier has been growing, and newer subdivisions have gone up around the older town. Those neighborhoods often come with HOA covenants that set height, style and color, and the lots are smaller, so fence placement next to the neighbor matters. Outside the subdivisions you still find farmland and homes on a few acres, where a long run of field fence or a wide drive gate is the job.

A Four Oaks crew is not the closest fence company to Angier, and we will not pretend otherwise. What you get is a builder who walks your lot, checks the rules first, sets posts deep in concrete, and gives you a straight answer on repair versus replacement.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a permit to build a fence in Angier?
Inside Angier's corporate limits, yes: the town requires a land use permit for a fence, and fences over six feet on residential lots need a special use permit. In unincorporated Harnett County, the county says no fence permit is required. We confirm which applies to your address before we build.

Is my Angier address in town or in the county?
Your mailing address does not always tell you. We check before we quote.

What does a fence cost in Angier?
It depends on how long the fence is, how tall it is, how many gates you want, the material and the terrain. The estimate is free. Call (910) 786-1243 and we will give you a real number.

Will my HOA approve the fence I want?
Many of the newer Angier neighborhoods have covenants on fence height, material and color. We help you check your HOA's rules before we build so the fence is approved from day one.

How soon can you start?
Once the estimate is approved and any permit or HOA approval is in hand, most residential jobs are finished within a week or two, weather permitting.
